Newly appointed Real Madrid coach, Jose Mourinho, has said he is rooting for the exit of the La Liga giants’ players currently participating in the ongoing 2026 World Cup.

The 63-year-old manager made this known recently while appearing as a guest on the latest edition of the BeastModeOn podcast.

Real Madrid have key players such as Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Antonio Rüdiger, and Marc Cucurella, amongst others, at the tournament.

With most of them playing for countries designated as favourites to win the World Cup, they are likely to go far in the competition.

This scenario might leave the Portuguese tactician with little time to prepare his squad for the new season.

Reacting to the development during his interview, Mourinho said he wants the countries whose shirts his players are donning to be eliminated from the World Cup.

According to him, this will ensure the Spanish club gets a proper pre-season and is ready to kick off in August.

“What am I looking forward to in the World Cup? I want Real Madrid players to lose. Because I want them back for pre-season with me in July!” Mourinho said.
