Nigerian rapper and songwriter, Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, better known as Odumodublvck, has claimed that “hip-hop is dead”.
He re-echoed Wizkid’s infamous sentiment in a recent post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.
The ‘Declan Rice’ hitmaker was reacting to a list of Nigerian artists with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify currently.
Despite the array of veteran and thriving rappers in the country, hip-hop artists were conspicuously absent from the recent top 10 list.

Burna Boy led the rankings with 40.68 million listeners, closely followed by Tems, who boasts 40.64 million listeners.
Rema ranked third with 29.43 million listeners, while Ayra Starr and Wizkid took the number four and five spots with 16.84 million and 16.81 million listeners, respectively.
Also on the list are Omah Lay (11.24m), Davido (10.83m), CKay (10.71m), and Fireboy DML (9.23m), with Asake completing the top 10 with 8.69m listeners.
Alluding to the complete absence of Nigerian rappers from the list, Odumodublvck boldly declared via his verified handle: “Hip Hop is dead.”
His post elicited mixed reactions, with many berating him for disrespecting the genre and arguing that hip-hop is still highly relevant outside Nigeria.
