Kannywood actress Wasila Isma’il dies after protracted illness

Kannywood actress Wasila Isma’il has passed away after battling an undisclosed protracted illness.

Her death was confirmed on Sunday by her former husband, Al-Amin Chiroma, via a now-trending social media post.

According to him, the 46-year-old veteran thespian breathed her last at the FOMWAN Hospital in Kaduna.

Wasila began her acting career in 1998 when she featured prominently in the Hausa movie, ‘Jinin Masoya’.

The actress later rose to prominence after starring in the 1999 film Wasila, directed by Yakubu Lere alongside Ali Nuhu.

In an earlier interview, she explained why the film’s title was changed from Jamila to Wasila.

“I didn’t like the name Jamila because I feared it might tarnish my name, so I asked for it to be changed, and the director agreed”, she said.

Following the news of her demise, fans and colleagues trooped to social media to appreciate her contributions to the Kannywood film industry and mourn her passing.
