Aisha Yesufu noted that while the absence of decisive leadership from a commander-in-chief is troubling, a “controlled and inactive” National Assembly could be equally damaging.

Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has challenged the National Assembly to take urgent action to stop the “alarming rate” of casualties among Nigerian soldiers.
She made the call on Thursday via her official X (formerly Twitter) page, expressing concern over the welfare and safety of military personnel deployed across various operations in Nigeria.
Aisha Yesufu was reacting to a report by Sahara Reporters titled, “Many Soldiers, Civilians Feared Dead As Boko Haram Terrorists Attack Military Base, IDP Camp In Borno.”
While faulting the response of lawmakers elected to represent and protect the interests of citizens, she noted that Nigeria is losing its soldiers at a “sickeningly alarming rate”.
She also questioned whether the National Assembly had summoned relevant authorities to explain the situation, while inquiring about the legislative measures introduced to ensure better protection and welfare for troops.

Yesufu further raised concerns about the fate of families left behind by fallen soldiers, urging lawmakers to clarify what support systems are in place for the relatives of slain military personnel.
She added that while the absence of decisive leadership from a commander-in-chief is troubling, a “controlled and inactive” National Assembly could be equally damaging.
Speaking via her verified handle, she wrote: “We are losing our soldiers at a sickeningly alarming rate. Where is the National Assembly? They were voted to be the people’s representatives and protect the interests of the people!
“Who have they summoned to ask what is going on? What laws have they made to ensure soldiers and their families are protected?
“What happens to the families of our slain heroes? What is the National Assembly doing to protect their interests?
“It is one thing not to have a Commander-in-Chief; it is another disastrous thing to have a passive and controlled National Assembly.”
