A businesswoman, Tracy Nicolas Ohiri, who accused Minister of Works David Umahi of owing her money, collapsed while she was about to be taken to prison, despite reportedly fulfilling her bail conditions.
Ohiri was arraigned in court by the police for alleged defamation against Umahi after she claimed he borrowed ₦250 million from her more than 12 years ago and refused to repay it. She also alleged that he solicited sexual favours from her.
According to a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Ohiri was seen lying on the floor of what appeared to be a police office, with efforts being made to resuscitate her. In the video, correctional service officials were stationed outside during the commotion. It took the efforts of Nigerians who had stormed the place to take her to the hospital, with prison officials accompanying them there.
Ohiri was charged in court a day after Umahi encountered her in the conference hall of the Force Headquarters.
In a video of the meeting posted by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, Ohiri was seen charging toward Umahi but was restrained by people nearby.
Umahi then attempted to leave, but Sowore called out, “Minister,” prompting him to turn back and shake hands with Sowore. Sowore told him he should not use policemen to settle personal scores. The minister’s aides quickly intervened and whisked him away.
