Afrobeats singer and songwriter Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, has set tongues wagging on social media after advocating for capital punishment for men who rape women.
The ‘Borrow Me Your Baby’ crooner made the suggestion on Tuesday night in a now-viral post shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to her, rapists, when apprehended and convicted, should be castrated and burnt alive.”
She also passionately appealed to citizens and the authorities to help put an end to sexual assault against women.
Speaking via her verified handle, Simi wrote: “I’m sickkk of this. Stop raping women. They need to castrate rapists and burn them.”

However, her recommendation sparked a heated debate. Many netizens argued that the same punishment should be applied to false rape accusers; she replied by stating that she was advocating specifically for rape victims, not victims of false accusations.
Dismissing the outrage—particularly from some of her male fans—the singer explained that her stance stems from the fact that almost all the women she knows have been “sexually assaulted at some point in their lives.”
She further argued that it is wrong to discourage people from speaking out against sexual assault simply because of the existence of false accusers.
“How many of your friends have actually assaulted women as ‘vibes’?? Women are terrified to go out. Women in their homes are not safe either. Ask your sisters. Ask your female friends and your girlfriends. Ask your wives. We’re not all crazy. Stop raping women,” she added.
Simi also urged men to hold their peers accountable, claiming that men create an enabling environment for rapists when they fail to challenge one another’s behaviour.
