Audu Maikori, Founder and Chairman of Chocolate City Entertainment Group, has alleged that despite his acknowledging and taking down an incorrect tweet, the former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, still retaliated by persecuting him.

The music entrepreneur made this known on Monday during an appearance as a guest on the Arise Television programme, Prime Time.

While fielding questions during the interview, Maikori accused the former governor of organising his “abduction”, arguing that performing the role of the police was not part of his duties as Kaduna’s first citizen.

Differentiating between prosecution and persecution, the music executive insisted that what he and others experienced at the hands of El-Rufai was the latter.

He noted that the former Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) attempted to link his tweet to the deaths of seven people.

“El-Rufai persecuted me for a wrong tweet I acknowledged and took down. He organised for me to be abducted,” Maikori said.

He added, “A governor shouldn’t do the job of the police. My driver confessed he had lied about the information he gave me.

“I was let go by the police, and the next weekend. El-Rufai was trying to link my tweet with the possible death of seven people.”

Chocolate City, one of Africa’s pioneering music and entertainment companies, was established in 2005 by Audu Maikori, Paul Okeugo, and Yahaya Maikori.

Since its establishment, it has shaped the Afrobeats movement for over two decades—managing, producing, and promoting iconic and contemporary artists such as Femi Kuti, M.I Abaga, Ice Prince, Blaqbonez, and Young Jonn.
