BREAKING: Defence Minister, Badaru steps down

Badaru, a two-term governor of Jigawa State, was appointed Minister of Defence on August 21, 2023.

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has resigned his appointment with immediate effect.

​His resignation was announced on Monday in a statement shared on X by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the presidential aide, Badaru’s resignation was contained in a letter dated December 1 and addressed to President Tinubu.

​He went on to disclose that the minister stepped down from his position on health grounds

​Onanuga continued, “President Tinubu has accepted the resignation and thanked Badaru Abubakar for his services to the nation.

​“President Tinubu is likely to inform the Senate of Badaru’s successor later this week.”

​Badaru, who was a two-term governor of Jigawa state, was appointed as the Minister of Defence on August 21, 2023.

​His resignation comes amid heightened insecurity in the country and the declaration of a national security emergency by the president.
