A Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church in Ungwan Maijero, Kaduna State, Venerable Edwin Achi, has died after being held for several weeks in the den of bandits.
His demise was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement released to journalists by the Anglican Diocese of Kaduna.
Ven. Achi, who hailed from Umuaja in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, was abducted alongside his wife and daughter on October 28, when the terrorists broke into his house in Nissi community, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Following their kidnapping, the assailants reportedly contacted his family and demanded an N600 million ransom.
While confirming his death, his church prayed for the safe return of the late clergyman’s wife and daughter.
“With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, the Diocese of Kaduna, Anglican Communion, announces the passing unto glory of The Venerable Edwin Achi, Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero.
“Ven. Edwin Achi, who was kidnapped alongside his wife on 28th October, 2025, has been confirmed dead,” the statement read.
The church went on to describe the priest’s death as a painful loss to the entire Diocese and everyone who has benefited from his ministry and service to God.
Despite his death, his kidnappers remain unyielding in their demand for ransom for his wife and daughter.
