Police arrest Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, lawyer during freedom march

By Ishaya Ibrahim

Police have arrested Aloy Ejimakor, one of the lawyers representing Nnamdi Kanu, and a brother of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) during a protest march in Abuja.

The arrests were reported by Omoyele Sowore, a key mobilizer of the protest, in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The demonstration in the nation’s capital demanded the release of Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.

Ejimakor had earlier alleged that police officers mobilized to quell the protest used tear gas to disperse the marchers. He made the allegation via a now-trending post on his official X page on Monday.

In a follow-up post confirming the arrests, Sowore stated: “The @PoliceNG team deployed to brutalize #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protesters arrested Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, and his lawyer, @AloyEjimakor, as well as innocent bystanders. They were beaten and taken to the FCT command. The police must release them immediately!”
