English League two club, Grimsby Town have been fined £20,000 for fielding an ineligible player during their Carling Cup second round win over Manchester United.
The Mariners eliminated the Premier League giants 12-11 via penalty kicks after the game ended 2-2 in 90 minutes, but played Clarke Oduor who was ineligible to the encounter.
As reward for the famous win, Grimsby will face Championship outfit, Sheffield Wednesday, in the third round of the Cup competition.

However, in a statement on Tuesday, EFL confirmed that Grimsby will pay a fine of “£20,000 – of which £10,000 will be suspended until the end of Season 2025/26 – for having breached the Rules of the competition.”
It added that the third tier outfit “self-reported the breach upon discovery the day after the fixture had been completed.”
According to EFL rules, Man United have five days to decide if they want to appeal the Grimsby saga.
