ADC replies Datti Baba-Ahmed over remarks party deceiving Nigerians

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reacted to recent comments made by Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, dismissing them as his “personal opinions” and not a reflection of the party’s stance.
In a statement signed by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Jackie Wayas, the ADC reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening opposition unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Baba-Ahmed accused the opposition coalition of “deceiving Nigerians” and questioned its ability to lead the country out of underdevelopment. He also hinted at his willingness to once again run alongside Peter Obi in 2027.
Responding, the ADC emphasised that the coalition remains a broad-based alliance designed to provide a credible alternative to President Bola Tinubu’s government.

The statement highlighted that the coalition includes notable figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Senator David Mark, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi. According to the ADC, these leaders came together after extensive consultations to prioritize the national interest above partisan divides.
The party recalled Obi’s earlier endorsement of the ADC as the platform for 2027, noting his call for collective action to dismantle structures of poverty and insecurity. Obi had also stressed that “no single group can change Nigeria alone,” while insisting that a new Nigeria remains achievable.
Clarifying its position, the ADC distanced itself from Baba-Ahmed’s views.
“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed’s assertions are his personal opinions and do not reflect the position of the ADC or its coalition partners,” Wayas stated.
Nonetheless, the party described him as an influential voice and extended an invitation to join forces with the coalition.
“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed is a respected voice who has always stood for integrity and justice. Since the coalition is a collective effort that requires the strength and skills of all patriots, we sincerely hope he comes on board to contribute to this shared vision for a better Nigeria,” Wayas added.
Reaffirming its goal of presenting a united front, the ADC urged Nigerians to back its coalition.
“Nigerians deserve clarity and unity in the pursuit of a better future. Let us rally behind the ADC and rescue Nigeria,” the statement read.
