Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, on Wednesday stressed the need for political appointees to always exercise caution when dealing with sensitive matters.
He gave the advice after his Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Namadi, resigned from his position hours after an investigative committee probing his alleged involvement in the bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Danwawu, submitted its report.
Speaking via a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Gov Yusuf urged his political appointees to endeavour to obtain permission from higher authorities before engaging in public interest issues.
It will be recalled that Namadi bailed the suspected drug baron and was also accused of receiving a substantial amount of US dollars
While addressing the saga, Dawakin-Tofa said the Commissioner’s decision to resign was made in the overriding public interest and the light of the sensitive nature of the matter.
He added that, “This development is regarded as a significant step in the administration’s ongoing commitment to integrity, transparency, and public accountability.”

The statement also stated that the commissioner stressed that, “As a member of an administration that has consistently championed the fight against the sales and consumption of illicit drugs, it behoves me to take this step, painful as it may be.
”While I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have collectively built.”
The spokesperson went on to say Namadi reaffirmed his dedication to good governance and responsible leadership, while maintaining his innocence.
He also noted that he expressed gratitude to the Kano governor for the opportunity to serve the state
He further said Gov Yusuf has accepted the commissioner’s resignation, reiterating his administration’s stance on justice, discipline, and the fight against drug-related crimes.
