Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Area in Benue State, Joseph Keffi, has applauded the decision of the federal government to deploy over 500 military troops and security personnel to key areas within his local government.
He made this feeling known in a recent statement issued by his Media Aide, Teran Nathaniel.
The deployment of military and other security agencies is part of a comprehensive strategy to combat insecurity in the local government and Benue State at large.
The troops were strategically stationed in Mbalagh, Agan, and other parts of the local government, which have been severely affected by insecurity allegedly caused by armed herders.
Speaking on the decision, Keffi extended his heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.
He noted that their leadership and timely response will help displaced residents to return and commence farming and other activities again.
He said, “The deployment of over 500 troops is a critical step toward restoring peace and protecting our people.
“These brave security personnel will help ensure that farming activities resume safely in Mbalagh, Agan, and other affected communities.”
In a show of support for the troops, the chairman said his administration procured essential supplies including mattresses, mosquito nets, and food items to aid their comfort and operational readiness during their stay in the local government.
“These troops are here for our people, and it is our duty to make them feel supported.
“Providing them with basic necessities is the least we can do to show our appreciation for their service.” he added.
Keffi also urged residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and cooperative with security forces, emphasizing that community collaboration is key to defeating criminal elements and achieving lasting peace.
“Makurdi Local Government remains fully committed to working with all stakeholders to rebuild communities, restore agriculture, and ensure security and development across the region.” he further said.
