The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticized the
continuous detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnandi Kanu by the federal government, saying “it does not make sense.”

He made this known while featuring on Channels Television programme, ‘Sunday Politics’.

According to him, Kanu is allegedly being held just for insulting or speaking against those in government.

Obi added that he will be advocating for a political solution, not just in the Nnamdi Kanu’s case, but other similar cases across the country.

He further said his main priority as a leader will be to put food on the table of the common man.

Speaking during the interview, Obi said, “Why is he (Kanu) still being held? It does not make sense to me.

“Some people said because he used vulgar words and everything. I’ve not seen it. They said he’s using vulgar words.

“But it doesn’t bother me if I’m president whether you call me thief or idiot, which they call me today. It doesn’t bother me.

“My duty as a leader is for the common man to put food on their table.”

Asked if he would handle such situations across the country equally, the former Anambra State governor added, “If there are people I can talk to, I’ll talk to them… let’s say tomorrow we have a bandit operating in the north East, I’ll meet with him.

“But that is just to establish a link to say enough is enough. And afterwards, I’ll deal with it decisively.”
