Police recover 50 live anti-aircraft ammunition in follow-up operation

Police have recovered 50 rounds of live anti-aircraft ammunition abandoned by fleeing terrorists given heavy bombardment from the military in Sulupawa village via Rijau to Kumbashi and Kakihum areas in Mariga Council of Niger.
Niger Police Command spokesman Wasiu Abiodun disclosed in a statement that the police received a report on June 25 at about 9am that terrorists attacked Watari village via Rijau and its environs.
He said the gunmen also rustled cattle before some were killed and others left in disarray due to military air bombardment from Sulupawa village via Rijau to Kumbashi and Kakihum.
According to Abiodun, a follow-up assessment by police officers and vigilante members led to the recovery on June 28 of 50 rounds of live anti-aircraft ammunition abandoned by the terrorists at Biyemu forest.
He said security assessment and investigation are ongoing to fortify the area against a reoccurrence and tactical teams are still being maintained at strategic locations for security coverage.
