Adeyanju condemns demolition of Obi’s brother’s Lagos property
By Ishaya Ibrahim
Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has condemned the demolition of a property belonging to Ndibe Obi, younger brother of Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, in Lagos. Adeyanju described the act as an example of vindictive politics targeting opposition figures.
The property, located at 57 Oduduwa Crescent in Ikeja GRA, was demolished between Monday, June 23, and Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The demolition was reportedly based on a judgment granting possession to one Deborah Olorunlogbon. However, the controversy stems from the fact that while Olorunlogbon was the claimant in the case, the defendant was listed as an “unknown person.”

Ndibe Obi’s company, Next Foods Limited, has controlled the property since acquiring it in 2011 and was unaware of any legal proceedings until the demolition began. Ndibe Obi contacted his brother, Peter Obi, during the demolition.

Peter Obi arrived in Lagos on June 24 and informed the site contractor that the property belonged to Next Foods Limited, where his younger brother is the majority shareholder, not an “unknown person.”
Adeyanju, in a post on his X handle, lamented the state of Nigerian politics, alleging persecution of opposition figures. He wrote, “Where are we heading in this country? Why was Peter Obi’s brother’s property demolished in Lagos? And he was not allowed to remove his property. What kind of politics is this for God’s sake?”
