The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Lagos socialite Emeka Okonkwo, popularly called E-Money, over allegations of mishandling naira and dollar banknotes.
According to reports, EFCC operatives arrested E-Money late Monday at his home in the Omole area of Lagos State.
The arrest stems from allegations that the socialite sprayed bundles of US dollars at a public event—an action said to contravene provisions of the Foreign Exchange Act.
“On Monday night, we arrested E-Money for Naira abuse and defacing foreign currencies. Specifically, he was alleged to have sprayed U.S. dollars, which is against the Foreign Exchange Act,” an EFCC source was quoted as telling Punch.
It was gathered that E-Money is being transported to Abuja for further questioning.
