Lagos teacher in police custody after viral video of abusing pupil

Lagos State Police Command has arrested a school teacher, Stella Nwadigo, on charges of physically abusing a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, at Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu.

The arrest followed the circulation of a viral video showing the alleged abuse, which sparked widespread outrage on social media.

Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Nwadigo’s arrest on Wednesday, saying, “The teacher has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing investigation. Further necessary actions will follow to ensure justice is served.”

The video has reignited debates on child protection and the role of educators in safeguarding children’s well-being. Parents of pupils at the school have expressed deep concern over the incident, with many calling for stricter regulations and better oversight of schools to prevent similar abuses.
