National Wire Announces Panel of Judges for Inaugural Campus Business Journalism Awards

The organisers of the Campus Business Journalism Awards have announced the names of the esteemed panel of judges for its inaugural edition.

The awards, spearheaded by National Wire, a news platform strong on financial reports, will recognize exceptional business reporting from campus journalists across various institutions.

Chairman of the awards and News Editor at National Wire, Dayo Emmanuel, revealed the panel members during a media briefing in Lagos. Emmanuel highlighted the importance of selecting judges with significant expertise in financial journalism to ensure the awards are thorough and credible.

“National Wire is managed day-to-day by three journalists who at different times passed through the Bloomberg Media Initiative for Africa (BMIA), a rigorous financial journalism training and we decided to tap into the BMIA network to ensure the selection process remains robust,” Emmanuel said.

According to him, the four judges are Bloomberg trained journalists and would be thorough due to their experience in the industry.

The four-man panel of judges consists of:

Ishaya Ibrahim, News Editor at TheNiche

Kirk Leigh, Editor at Abuja Politico

Segun Elijah, a Lagos-based journalist

Joe Agbro Jr., Editor at Daily Shot

With the awards in three categories, the competition promises to be keenly contested, as entries have been received from campus journalists eager to showcase their talent in business journalism.

Emmanuel expressed confidence that the chosen panel would ensure fairness and thorough evaluation of all submissions.

The awards, he added, are an important milestone in recognising and nurturing the next generation of Financial reporters in Nigeria.
