Spittler says Rwanda will try to beat Super Eagles in Uyo

Spittler and his players currently occupy third position in Group D of the 2025 AFCON qualifier with five points, two adrift of Benin

Rwanda head coach, Torsten Spittler, has promised fans of the East African nation that his players will give their all and try to beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria when they meet at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Monday. 

The German made this known while addressing journalists during his pre-match press conference.

Rwanda must defeat their more illustrious opponent to stand any chance of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria on the other hand, have already qualified for the tournament to be hosted by Morocco but are trying to maintain their unbeaten streak in the qualifying series.

Rwanda currently occupy third position in Group D with five points, two adrift of Benin Republic who have seven points.

Speaking ahead of the match, Spittler said his team will fight till the last minute against the Super Eagles to achieve their objective.

“It’s clear that if we must go to AFCON 2025, we’ll have to win here [against the Super Eagles].

“So, that’s our mission here. I’m expecting an interesting match against Nigeria, and we’ll have to fight until the last minute,” he said.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen has said his team will be professional in their approach in the clash against Rwanda.

Despite the inconsequential nature of the game, the Nigerian tactician insisted his players are going for a win.
