Man United sack Ten Hag after 2-1 loss to West Ham

Man United also said they were grateful to the Dutch tactician for helping them win two domestic trophies in two and a half years

Manchester United have parted ways with their Dutch manager, Erik ten Hag after two and a half years in charge.

The former Ajax boss was informed of the decision by the club’s board on Monday morning after Man United were defeated by West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the club as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, has been named as manager on an interim basis with the rest of staff remaining in position for now.

Man United confirmed the development
on Monday via a statement which read: “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.

“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.”

The statement added, “Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited”.

Man United’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham left the club 14th on the Premier League log table with just three wins from their opening nine matches.

They are also 21st of 36 teams in the Europa League table
