During the encounter, the Mediterranean Knights frustrated the Super Eagles with their delay antics for the majority of the game.

The visitors despite ending the first half 0-0 continued to sit back and soak up pressure in the second half.

However, Lazio midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru broke the deadlock in 87th minute after he was teed by Moses Simon and the game ended 1-0 in favour of Nigeria.

Speaking after the match, a not too impressed Eguavoen said the Mediterranean Knights only came out to play after conceding a goal in the dying minutes of the game.

He also wondered why a team as good as the North African side did not make an attempt to win such a crucial match.

He said, “They are a good side. They should play. When we scored, they came out.”

Eguavoen went on to add, “They defended in numbers in front of their goalkeeper.”

With the win, Nigeria remain top of Group D with 7 points from three games and they are closely followed by Benin Republic who are on 6 points from the same number of games.

Rwanda occupy the third spot with 2 points, while Libya are bottom with a single point.

Meanwhile, Nigeria and Libya will clash again in Benina next week on Tuesday.
