Philips Shaibu, who was reinstated as Edo State Deputy Governor by a Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday said he has resumed duties.

Speaking in Benin, Shaibu said he had recalled all the staff in his office and would be working from home to prevent confrontation.

Shaibu was impeached by the House of Assembly on several allegations including leaking confidential government documents. But the court nullified the impeachment, noting that it didn’t follow due process.

Those reappointed by Shaibu are Kingsley Ehigiamusor as Chief of Staff and Musa Ebomhiana as Chief Press Secretary.

Others reappointed are Emmanuel Akhaba, Charles Olubayo, Mustapha Lawal-Omokpe and Matthias Akhanemhe as Senior Special Assistants.

But Edo State Government countered the appointments, saying that Omobayo Godwins remains the deputy governor.

“I have resumed, recalled all my staff,” Shaibu said, “I will be working from private residence to prevent any confrontation.”

“I remain the deputy governor. All salaries and entitlements will be paid,” he added.

Shaibu said the Thursday gun attack on him and the APC governorship candidate, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, was an assassination attempt allegedly orchestrated by the state government.

He noted, however, that he had instituted a N50 billion suit against Governor Godwin Obaseki and two appointees for allegedly defaming his character by claiming he orchestrated the attack using thugs.
