Human rights activist and former lawmaker,  Senator Shehu Sani, has argued that establishment of state police in the country could be a recipe for anarchy.

He made this known on Monday via his X handle, saying the idea that state police would solve all the security problems in the country is a mirage.

His comment followed a recent  emergency meeting between President Bola Tinubu and state governors at the Aso Rock Villa, where the Federal Government hinted that it was considering allowing each state to establish its police.

The parley was necessitated by the growing insecurity in all the regions of the country including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Reacting to the development, the former senator expressed worry that state police will abused by governors and the ruling party of each state.

Speaking on his social media page , Shehu Sani tweeted: “The idea that State Police will solve all the security problems in the Country is a mirage. What magic can the state police perform that the military, police and civil defence couldn’t? The State police will simply be an armed wing of the ruling party of each state. Its a recipe for anarchy.
