52yr-old woman bags 3yrs jail term for drug trafficking

Justice Daniel Osiagor of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday, convicted and sentenced a 52-year-old woman, Yemisi Ajehboriogbon, to a term of three years imprisonment over drug trafficking.

The defendant was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a one-count charge bordering on illegal deal in cannabis sativa.

She pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to her before Justice Osiagor.

After her plea, the prosecutor , Mrs N.J Mamza reviewed the facts of the case before the court and tendered several exhibits as evidence.

Some of the exhibits included: a statement of the defendant, a request for scientific aid form, a drug analysis form, as well as remnant of the narcotics

The court admitted the exhibits in evidence and marked them accordingly.

The prosecutor then urged the court to convict and sentence the defendant based on the evidences adduced by prosecution as well as the plea of the defendant.

In his judgement, Justice Osiagor convicted the defendant and sentenced her to a term of three years imprisonment with an option of fine of N500,000.

According to the charge, the convict committed the offence on December 18, 2023 at the Agege area of Lagos

She was said to have engaged in unlawful deal in 10kg of Cannabis sativa

The offences contravenes the provisions of Sections 11(c) of the NDLEA Act Cap N30 Law of the Federation 2004.
