AS Roma sack controversial Portuguese coach, Mourinho

AS Roma unveiled Jose Mourinho as the 60th coach of the Serie A outfit in May 2021

Serie A oufit, AS Roma has parted ways with popular Portuguese football manager, José Mourinho after close to three years.

His sack was confirmed via a statement on the football club’s website on Tuesday.

According to the Italian club, Mourinho and his staff are expected to leave with immediate effect.

AS Roma also thanked the former Chelsea coach for his service, saying they “will always have great memories of his tenure”.

The statement read: “AS Roma can confirm that José Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave the club with immediate effect.

“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

Mourinho joined the Giallorossi as their 60th coach in 2021 and he led them to win the Europa Conference League in 2022.

He also helped the club to reach the Europa League final in Budapest last season.

AS Roma in the now-viral statement added that further updates on the new first team coaching staff will follow imminently.
