There has been no word from the Department of State Services (DSS) since it was reported that its officials arrested the chief executive officer of the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), Abbas Masanawa.

According to reports, the NIRSAL boss was taken into custody over his alleged involvement in the ongoing corruption probe of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The embattled former CBN boss will be facing fresh charges next week at the Federal Capital Territory High Court after the DSS withdrew the charge of illegal possession of firearms instituted at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The Nation reports that Masanawa was arrested three weeks ago and has been in custody since then.

But spokesman of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, could not be reached for comments, the newspaper said.

A copy of the memo circulating online since Wednesday was signed by R. N. Dopemu, for the State Director of the FCT Command.

The memo dated August 1, 2023, was addressed to the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation.
