BREAKING: Itsekiri, Ogundiran emerge national Sprint title holders, Amusan hits quadruple

Canadian-based sprinters, Usheoritse Itsekiri and Blessing Ogundiran came tops at the National AthIetics Championship clocking 10:02secs on Wednesday in Benin

His victory stood ahead of a strong field that include Seye Ogunlewe, Enoch Adegoke, Ashe Favour, Alaba Akintola, Ajayi Kanyinsola and Consider Ekanem.

Also, Blessing Ogundiran in the 100m women’s race turned the tables on the AFN Golden League winner Faith Okwose and raced to a time of 11.50 secs.

Okwose clocked 11.51secs. for 2nd while the 3rd position went to the African record holder, Ese Brume who found a new love with 100m. She clocked 11.52secs as Victory Godah managed 4th equaling the time.

Earlier in the day, the World 100mh Champion Tobi Amusan won her Fourth National Championship title, clocking a time of 12.70s to win the women’s 100mh finals at the 2023 national athletics championships in Benin ahead of a strong field.

Amusan is now a four-time National champion African Record Holder, Commonwealth Games champion, World champion and World record holder.

Also concluded today, Comfort James emerged as the women’s 800m national champion. She powered ahead of Saibu Yetunde with a time of 2:07.96 in Benin.

Meanwhile, the 400m Men and women’s semi-finals were concluded with home-based Athletes showing fantastic promise.
