Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has said that the board would never allow the Computer Based Test (CBT) centres to in any form exploit candidates registering for the Uniform Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).

The JAMB boss stated this just as he explained reasons the board allowed the CBT centres to collect, from candidates, N1000 as against N700 earlier agreed on as charges for registration for the upcoming exams.

Oloyede who spoke with newsmen after touring some CBT centres in Ilorin, said it was resolved that the registration fee should be increased by N300 when operators of the CBT centres complained of extra expenses as a result of hike in the price of diesel.

The Registrar, during the tour, announced suspension of a CBT centre named Damdav in Ilorin from registration of candidates for the matriculation exams.

He told newsmen that he ordered the suspension because the centre instead of using many cameras to ensure there is no mix up of passports of candidates, was using only one camera which makes the registration not save from mix up of passports.

He said the centre would remain suspended until it has corrected the anomalies.

The JAMB registrar explained that he embarked on the tour to ensure that the CBT centres comply with the rules and regulations set up to make the registration hitch-free.

He said the board would not condone non-compliance of the centres with the rules and regulations because it would not want a situation where candidates do not have confidence in the system put in place for their examinations.

Oloyede said there would be no extension of the February 14 deadline for the on-going registration for the examination.

He said while it is expected that about 1.8million candidates to register for the exam only 445,081 have so far registered. He added that while the board had made facilities available for registration of 100, 000 candidates per day the average number of registration per day as at present was 61,000.
