Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, has named Brazilian Striker, Gabriel Jesus and French defender, William Saliba, as the two players behind the revival of Arsenal this season.

He made the assertion, after the Gunners’ 3-1 win over their north London rivals, Tottenham over the weekend and their impressive 21 points from a possible 24 so far this season.

Arsenal started the new season in a more impressive way, given how their last campaign collapsed toward the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta’s side looked destined for the top 4 for much of the run-in, until defeats to Spurs and Newcastle opened the door for their neighbours to pinch fourth place.

According to Mirror, Carragher back then offered a pessimistic view of where Arsenal would go after missing out on Champions League football last season.

But Arteta, working closely with the technical director Edu, quickly addressed the biggest issues with the summer signing of Jesus from Manchester City and integrated Saliba to the team, after a loan spell at Ligue 1 side, Marseille, last season.

Carragher, while analysing Arsenal’s win over Spurs on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, said a lot of pundits had thought the Lilywhites would be in the Gunners’ position this season.

He also said, though some have criticised Spurs’ style of play, it is the way their manager, Conto wants to play football.

He said, “A lot of people thought that this season, maybe Spurs would be in the position that Arsenal are in now,”

“I’ve seen Spurs got a bit of criticism, but in terms of how Conte plays – they played like a Conte team. If they’d have got the final pass right on three or four occasions, they should have gone in at half-time in front.

“But I take nothing away from Arsenal, I’ve been so impressed with them at the start of the season – the pace they play at, the football they play.”

He went on to describe William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus as the two players responsible for Arsenal’s fine form for this season.

“And the two signings…well not signings but Saliba and Jesus have come in and completely taken this team to another level,” Carragher added.
