BBNaija host, Ebuka, shares old tweet on ‘Ponmo’ ban, Nigerians react

Ebuka, who in April said he would ban ‘Ponmo’ if he becomes the president, took to Twitter to ask who revealed his plans after FG proposed banning the commodity

Popular media personality and anchor of the popular TV reality show, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, has incurred the wrath of Nigerians, who accused him of being insensitive.

This comes after reports that the Federal Government (FG) is working on a law aimed at banning the consumption of cow skin, better known as ‘Ponmo’ in the country to revive tanneries went viral on social media. 

Ebuka, in a tweet on his official Twitter handle, raised questions on who was revealing his plans to the Nigerian government as he shared an old tweet from April where he had said he would ban ponmo if he becomes president.

After the post went viral, Nigerians took to the comment section to react to his old and current tweets, with majority of them accusing him of being insensitive to the plight of the poor.

Some went as far as saying he instigated the decision of a federal government to ban ‘Ponmo’. 

A netizen identified as janettegodyewin tweeted, “What on Earth did ponmo do to you?” 

Another Twitter user, colleenata said,  “just when i started liking Ponmo ☹️.” 

Ifekili_anya added, “I really feel like this is your fault, you gave them the idea. Tell me how we are supposed to eat Abacha and ugba, just tell me. You islanders always discriminate against the Trenches.” 

Another Nigerian named mrtokunbo wrote, “Me don plan so tey na the plan they plan me Abeg make person come thief my own plan as e no dey work so.” 

While cryptomekamark said,  “Ebuka you gave them this idea and you must pay for it”
