The Gabon striker was frozen out of his team and stripped of his captain’s armband while he was at Arsenal for breaking the club rule.

Considering his wages, goals and experience at that time, the move was criticised by football pundits but the Arsenal gaffer decided to leave him out of the team.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward eventually terminated his contract to move to La Liga giant Barcelona for free.

Aubameyang was unveiled by Chelsea late on Thursday night after the Blues agreed to a £10.3m deal with Barcelona.

Barca only signed him in February after his contract with Arsenal was mutually terminated.

Aubameyang spent four years at the Emirates, scoring 92 goals in 163 games.

Reacting to Aubameyang’s return to the Premier League during his latest pre-match conference, Arteta said: “I’m sure he’s made that decision because he wants to change again and find the best possible for his future, and we here wish him the best of luck.”
