Despite his exploit at the club level, he is yet to get a senior call-up from Portugal, but he has donned his country’s jersey 20 times at the Under-21 level.

Vieira was valued higher than what Arsenal will likely be paying, as he had a release clause of €50m but sources confirmed Porto are willing to accept a lower offer from the North London club.

Arsenal will begin their campaign next season at Selhurst Park, taking on Crystal Palace in the first game of the new season on Friday 5 August.

If the deal gets done, Fabio Viera will be the first arrival at the Emirate Stadium this summer.
