Osinbajo Campaign officials say he has pitched well countywide

By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor

Yemi Osinbajo Campaign people and street supporters are pretty impressed with his stump all over the 36 states and Abuja, not taking anything for granted, and ignoring the grandstanding of filibusters to focus on his knowledge, experience, and competence to lift Nigeria out of its quagmire – God willing.

“We believe that he will be a candidate for the APC general elections and he is the only candidate that can beat Atiku Abubakar; that I am sure of,” says Senator Kabiru Gaya who echoes the views in the Osinbajo camp.

Gaya represents Kano South in the Senate and is the Chairman of The Progressive Project (TPP), Osinbajo’s umbrella support group.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) concluded the screening of its 24 presidential candidates on Tuesday, the day the Vice President was grilled by the panel chaired by former APC National Chairman John Oyegun.

As Osinbajo headed to the panel at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari met with the 22 Governors in the APC in Aso Rock and told them he would choose his successor, just as he allowed them to choose theirs.

Buhari listed the qualities in the man he wants to succeed him. Many Osinbajo supporters North and South interpret the description as referring to him.

The APC will hold its convention on 6 and 7 June to elect its presidential candidate who will square off with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 vote.

The presidential primary was originally scheduled for 30 and 31 May.

The mood in the Osinbajo Campaign and among his supporters on the street is summed up by his aide Babafemi Ojudu and Gaya.

Ojudu says Osinbajo has campaigned hard, and well

“He [Osinbajo]has all it takes to be President of Nigeria and we are ready whichever way it goes,” Ojudu pitched, per reporting by Vanguard.

“The APC leadership needs to be fair, just and equitable in its organisation of the convention. At the moment, the screening panel is fair to all.

“In the history of Nigeria and primaries in this country, there is nobody that has campaigned like the Vice President did. We went to 36 states including the FCT, he did not just only take questions from everyone he stood up to answer those questions.

“And after doing so, he took photographs with every individual and each of the delegates present at those events.

“So you can see that he is determined and is prepared, and he has done his own work, and he is not taking our party members for granted.

“And he wants to let them know his vision, his agenda and what he will do, you know, not just for this country, but even for them as members of the party, if and when he is elected.”

Gaya insists only Osinbajo can defeat Atiku

Gaya insisted that Osinbajo is the only candidate who can beat Atiku.

“We are impressed by his qualifications and experience. He has been in the system for so many years as the Vice President and he has acted also as a President. So he is the most experienced aspirant in this race.

“We believe that he will be a candidate for the APC general elections and he is the only candidate that can beat Atiku Abubakar; that I am sure of.”
