Lekki Concession Company Limited (LCC), the operators of the Ikoyi Link Bridge and the Admiralty Circle Plaza, has shelved the resumption of tolling at the Ikoyi Link Bridge till a later date.

The deferment was necessitated by the several protests by Lekki residents under the aegis of the Lekki Estates Residents & Stakeholders Association who opposed the April 16th, 2022 resumption date for toll collection at the bridge.

LCC Managing Director, Yomi Omomuwasan, who announced the postponement in a statement on Friday, said the company decided to delay the resumption for further discussions with key stakeholders.

He also stated that toll collection will resume when his company arrives at a mutually favourable resolution of all issues with the concerned residents in the Eti-Osa and Lekki axis of Lagos State.

Omomuwasan went on to say the preparatory operations done before the planned resumption of tolling on the Bridge were also successful and thanked the stakeholders for their cooperation.

“As a responsible organization, we must take full cognizance of everyone within the axis. Therefore, we want to continue with the ongoing engagements with our stakeholders.

“The preparatory operations to resume tolling on the Bridge have been smooth so far, and we are grateful to all the key stakeholders for their cooperation. The planned commencement of toll collection has now been postponed, allowing more of our customers to register for the electronic toll devices to enable seamless passages at the toll plaza,” he said.

The two toll gates manned by LCC were the spots where soldiers were alleged to have killed unarmed demonstrators and injured some other protesters during the EndSARS movement in October 2020.
