Nigerians are the 12th player on Tuesday, says Ighalo

Ighalo, who returned to the Super Eagles set up after retirement, said the Super Eagles need the fans to carry them over the line

Former Man United striker, Odion Ighalo has said the support of Nigerians during Tuesday’s match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja is crucial to securing a win against Ghana and qualifying for the World Cup.

The first leg of the encounter ended in a stalemate at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Friday, with Nigeria now needing a win against the Black Stars in Abuja to claim a spot in Qatar.

Ighalo, who returned to the Super Eagles set up after retirement, made the statement when speaking with the press after Sunday’s training.

The 32-year-old admitted the game will be a very tough encounter which is a must-win for the team if they want to play at the World Cup.

“We know we are condemned to win at home and if we want to go to the World Cup, we have to win.

“We know it is going to be a difficult game, it’s going to be a tough one, but the boys are ready to go,” Ighalo said

He added that the team will need the support of the fans, who he called the 12th player’  to overcome our arch-rivals, Ghana in the clash. 

He urged the supporters to troop out and support them, as it will be a mission impossible without them carrying the Super Eagles over the line. 

“We just call on the fans to come out in numbers to cheer us on Tuesday, we are looking forward to them because they are our 12th man.

“Without them, it’s going to be impossible, so we want them to come out in numbers, support us and cheer us to victory. By God’s grace, we are going to win the game,” he added.
