Olu Jacobs bags Vanguard’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Olu Jacob six years ago was also given a similar award by the organisers of the African Movie Academy Awards, AMAA

Legendary actor, Olu Jacobs has been informed that he has won an award for his contribution to the movie industry and paying his dues as one of the pioneers of Nollywood by Vanguard.

This is coming after the veteran actor was conferred with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the organizers of the prestigious Africa International Film Festival, AFRIFF late last year. 

This is the third of the same award in six years, as he was also given a similar award by African Movie Academy Awards, AMAA, in 2016.

The patriarch of Nollywood will again be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the forthcoming Vanguard’s Personality of the Year Awards 2021.

In a letter signed by the Editor of the newspaper, Eze Anaba, the organisation while notifying the actor about the award said he earned it in recognition of his contribution to the growth and development of actors and actresses and the movie industry as a whole.

“The honour is also in further attestation to your selfless and outstanding roles which have helped spur the growth and development of the country’s entertainment industry, especially theatre, cinema, and home videos.

“We have followed your career spanning over 40 years and are impressed with the priceless roles you have played as a bridge between the old and new breed of Nigerian actors.

“We are also aware that as one of the pioneer actors in the Nigerian movie industry, you also helped set the trajectory for posterity in the entertainment industry through your profound contributions, both on and off camera, ” the letter reads.

The wife of the actor, Joke Silva who received the letter on behalf of her husband on Thursday, in Lagos said the ace actor was excited and honoured by the gesture. 

The renowned actress also said her husband before the award doesn’t joke with the newspaper, and added that the honour means a lot to them. 

Joke Silva said “It means a lot to us. It’s almost like an appreciation of all that you have done. And that you have worked with His joy and go with His joy.”

She also assured the news organisation that her ailing husband will be physically present to receive the award himself.
