Super Bowl halftime show is a tradition in the NFL. Rapper, Eminem took a knee after his song in solidarity with the fight against racism

HipHop icons Dr Dre, Snoop Dog, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar performed at the Super Bowl half-time event on Sunday.

The musicians performed their hits from the 90s through the 2000s to the delight of the cheering fans. 

The rapper 50 Cent performed his “In da Club” hit track. R&B act Mary J Blige also performed ” Family Affair” and “No More Drama “

Rap legend Eminem jumped on stage to deliver his 2002 hit, “Lose Yourself,” after which he took the knee. The kneeling gesture became a subject of controversy when former National Football League quarterback Colin Kaepernick used it as an act of protest against police brutality and racial discrimination.

After several years of grappling with an assortment of racial controversies, the N.F.L. likely wanted credit for showcasing Black music — especially hip-hop, the lingua franca of American pop culture — this prominently.

Rap music’s generational superstars such as Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and other veterans, took advantage of possibly the most visible of platforms to preach the message
