The 2023 presidential aspiration of Senator Anyim Pius Anyim got a shot in the arm on Friday with the pledge by Prof. Anya O. Anya to help him in whatever way he deems fit.

Prof. Anya, a foremost academic and a 1992 Nigerian National Medal of Merit awardee made this promise when Anyim visited him in his Lagos home in continuation of his consultations with critical stakeholders over his ambition.

Anya told Anyim, former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), “We will pray for you. Whatever you want me to do, I am available to help.”

Anyim, who had earlier told Prof Anya that he came to consult with him on his aspiration and to seek his prayers, pleaded with the leading light of the intellectual community and multi-dimensional personality, statesman, scientist and boardroom guru, to lend his weighty voice to the call for power shift from the North to South in 2023.

“I have come to consult with you on my aspiration. I am also here to persuade you to raise your voice as a moral authority on the issue of rotation. What is good for the North is also good for the South. I have also come to ask for your prayers,” Anyim told Prof Anya, the founding Director-General of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).

Anya encouraged Anyim to carry the other aspirants along even as he seeks the country’s ultimate political position.

He lamented that the country is in a deep hole, insisting that everybody must rally round to rescue the country.

“One of the tragedies of where we are as a country is that the North is where it is now – a situation of total breakdown of law and order.

“The leadership of the North is not in a situation to solve its problems. There is no part of Nigeria that doesn’t have a problem and no part left alone can solve its problems. We need a collegiate approach in seeking solution to the country’s problems.

“But there is so much ignorance and prejudice and people have taken positions without knowing what the issues are,” Anya said.

Anyim, who is aspiring for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had earlier visited Chief Olabode George, former PDP Deputy National Chairman (South) and Chief Ayo Adebanjo, leader of the foremost Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere.

He kicked off Friday’s consultations with the leader of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba, at his Lagos home.

The visit to the three Yoruba leaders marks the commencement of his wider consultations with South-West leaders.
