Former Gunners and Togo striker, Emmanuel Adebayor, has chastised his former club Arsenal over their treatment of their former captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang has scored 92 goals in 163 appearances for Arsenal but the 32-year-old may have played his last game for the Premier League club after Mikel Arteta stripped him of captaincy and stopped playing him for disciplinary reasons.

Aubameyang has missed Arsenal’s last 10 matches, his last match being the 1-2 away loss to Everton last year.

The club seem to be open to selling the Gabon international, either on loan or permanently and several clubs are lining up for his signature, although his wage is a huge stumbling block.

The striker who is back at the club following his early release from the African Cup of Nations has been training away from the club’s first team.

The 45-year-old Adebayor believes he was never forgiven by the Arsenal faithful and likens the way he was treated to what Aubameyang is facing.

The Togolese claimed he understands what Auba is going through since he was once in a similar position and wished him well.

Adebayor, who spent four seasons at the Emirates, while talking to Sky Sports said: “I know he’s going through a lot because that’s Arsenal for you.

“They never knew how to forgive, so I know he went through a lot. He’s a fantastic player, I wish him all the best – I’ve sent him a message already.

“We just want him to bounce back. Whether we like it or not, he’s an African brother and we want him to keep representing Africa the way he was doing before.”
