United narrowly beat visiting Crystal Palace 1-0  at Old Trafford yesterday, a result which took them above Arsenal into the 6th position.

But the German after the match noted that despite the brilliant performances from his two holding midfielders, Fred and Scott, they made few mistakes.

The 63-year-old said he would want to change the sloppy square passes from his team in future encounters.

He added that playing that way could be dangerous when a team is proactively and playing with intensity, especially when playing with four players in the attack.

“If you play the way that about, about intensity, being on the front foot, playing very proactively, and having four offensive players ahead of Scotty and Fred – with Jadon, Bruno, Cristiano and Marcus – it’s highly important that you have players who are very disciplined, who are proactively aggressive against the ball.

“And both Scotty and Fred are almost perfect defensively on that. They did one or two or three mistakes, especially in the first half there were two square passes – one from Scott, one from Fred.

“I don’t like those kinds of balls in midfield in those positions. But overall, when the other team is in possession of the ball, both Fred and Scotty they are almost perfect for that kind of football,” Rangnick said.

United travel to Carrow Road next to play Norwich City, who are desperate to climb out of the relegation zone. A win for United could see them go fifth if Arsenal and Spurs do not win their outstanding matches.
