The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday arrested former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
As at the time of filing this report, Saraki, who was also governor of Kwara State, is still in EFCC custody.
An EFCC source who confirmed the arrest said he is being help over allegations of theft and money laundering.
As Senate President between 2015 and 2019, Saraki spent a considerable time facing allegations of corruption and false declaration of assets.
He was acquitted by the Supreme Court in June 2018.
But the EFCC source said his arrest has nothing to do with the old allegations.
“It is based entirely on new cases that have been unearthed,” the source said on condition of anonymity.
It will be recalled that Saraki’s successor as Kwara governor, Abdulfatai Ahmed, was earlier arrested by the anti-graft agency.
Saraki’s aides did not pick their calls when TheNiche reached out to them.
