Owner of Cubana Night Club in Lagos, Obi Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has stirred debate after announcing that he received almost 300 cows from friends and well wishers to bury his mum.
The 45-year-old nightlife entrepreneur who is worth $96 million according to some estimates found on the internet, would be burying his mum today, July 17, in his village in Anambra State.
His Cubana Night Club has severally been raided by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over allegation of being a den for internet fraudsters.
The debate over the source of his wealth was started by a social media influencer known with his Twitter handle name, Onye Nkuzi, who asked: “What does this ‘Obi Cubana’ fellow do for a living?”
Onye Nkuzi’s question elicited almost 300 comments with varied responses.
@Arthur1mill responded, by listing a number of businesses he said belong to Obi Cubana.
“Rolex Hotels – Lagos
Cubana Leisure Outfits
Pablo Cubana – Lagos
Crave Cubana – Abuja
Grand Cubana Hotels – Abuja
Opium Cubana – Owerri
Cubana Night Clubs – Lagos
Gustavo Cubana- Enugu
Ibizza club
Casa cubana (Estate)
But I no sabi the source of the money.”
@OchiJnr said: “Dede, I asked a similar question a couple of hours ago, not tangible responses. Someone listed his businesses, but that’s not the question. How did he start, his influences, challenges faced, when did he get that big break?”
But @Cygrachi differed: “People should learn how to mind their business! If he were to be poor, would have ask the source of his poverty? If he is spending billions of naira for his mother’s burial, it’s his choice.”
@Michaelcokafor disagreed with @Cygrachi: “A very good sign of complete moral decadence. “Its not ur business” kept Nigeria like this That’s why kidnappers are flourishing, yahoo + boys are role models and all sort of atrocities are happening in our society. It’s not our business. Unfortunate.”
@PrincewillNnad3 said: “His father was rich
He was able to manage the wealth and expand it.”
@umoh46 sarcastically asked: “How did his father make his wealth?”
@codevoodo replied him with a poke: “If you can question your father like this, definitely you will know the source of your poverty.”
