A human rights and advocacy group, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has expressed concern over the continuous arrests and detention of journalists and has therefore called on the Nigerian government to immediately and unconditionally release the affected journalists.
In its twitter handle SERAP said, ‘We call on Nigerian authorities and Nigeria Police to immediately and unconditionally release journalist Tosin Adeniji who is reportedly arrested and detained in Suleja Prison solely for covering #EndSARS protest, adding that journalism is NOT a crime@UNHumanRights
In the same vein, SERAP twitted, “We condemn reported arrest of Babawale Popoola and Fisayo Aderemi by the Osun State Police Command allegedly for being administrators of a WhatsApp group used for mobilisation for #EndSARS protest in the state.
“We call for the immediate and unconditional release of Eromosele Peter Adene, who was reportedly arrested today in Lagos by the Nigeria Police allegedly for being a promoter of #EndSARS protests.
“We call for their immediate and unconditional release”
“Nigerian authorities must end new waves of repression across the country”.
