The United States president, Donald Trump, has expressed appreciation to the Nigerians who marched in a victory parade for his re-election.
The parade which took place in some states in the South East, showed a large procession of young men and women, including the elderly waving the American flag and singing a Christian victory song for the Republican nominee whose victory is still hanging delicately in the balance.
The victory parade excited Trump who shared one of the videos of the marchers and tweeted: “A parade for me in Nigeria, a great honor!”
But the victory parade for Trump has divided Nigerians. While some support the initiative, others disagree, arguing that the marchers were IPOB sympathizers.
@gimbakakanda tweeted: “As a Nigerian, I feel utterly embarrassed by this circus. This is not a reflection of Trump’s popularity in Nigeria, for those curious. We are a country of about 200 million people, and not one to endorse a far-right demagogue.”
@Oja_Igbo countered @gimbakakanda: “This is more amusing than embarrassing. Yes a country of 200 million people. Yes that video is not a general endorsement neither is this your opinion the general position of the 200 million. They acted on their rights, as you spoke on your rights alone too.”
@Dr_Yazzy quipped: “To Americans reading this; don’t get upset with Nigeria, this video obviously looks staged and the rest of over 200million Nigerians are highly embarrassed after watching this.”
@todabel said: “Let them say all they want! Congrats on your victory Sir! We in Nigeria love you and we are with you! You are coming out victorious in this elections and I pray republicans grab that seat from Pelosi so you can work well for your citizens! Please help Nigeria choose a better leader too.”
