The Election Petition Tribunal in Kwara State on Monday (today) nullified the election of an All Progressive Congress (APC) legislator in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Ahmed Rufai, representing Patigi State Constituency.
The tribunal nullified the election of Rufai on three grounds of certificates forgery, inconsistencies in names and age falsification.
In its judgement the tribunal, instead, declared the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), candidate, Sahihu Mohammed Yahaya, winner of the Patigi State Constituency Bye Election held on March 14, 2020.
Recall that the PDP and Mohammed Yahaya had challenged Rufai’s victory at the tribunal. The petitioners had filed petition on five grounds but the three judges agreed to three grounds.
In the heat of electioneering, the APC candidate, Rufai, was alleged to have obtained forged WAEC Certificate but he denied the allegations and clarified the issue when featured on radio program on 22nd February 2020.
Rufai, explained on the program, that it is part of the unwholesome politics that was making round the online news which is absolutely untrue. He stressed that he wrote NECO and WAEC respectively and stated emphatically that he forged no certificate.
