Edo State council of traditional rulers have admonished the people of the state not to be intimated out of voting the candidate of their choice in the coming governorship election.

The election holds on September 19 with two major candidates – Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his challenger, Osagei Ize-Iyamu, the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The council, after a meeting with the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, encouraged eligible voters to come out en masse to exercise their constitutional right of voting a candidate of their choice.

The council also warned politicians against acts that could undermine the peace of the state.

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II had negotiated a peace treaty between the APC and the PDP a few weeks ago.

The council said they are hopeful that the treaty would be complied with, even though they also lament the worsening security situation across many villages and communities, especially villages in Edo North Senatorial District.

The traditional council appealed to security agencies to live up to their responsibilities of protecting lives and property, especially the worsening cases of kidnapping.
