The former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice during former Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s administration, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede SAN, has emerged as the governorship candiate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the October 10 poll in Ondo State.
In a keenly contested primary election between the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, Jegede and six other aspirants, Eyitayo Jedege scored 888 votes to beat them.
Agboola Ajayi got 657 votes, Banji Okunmo 90, Eddy Olafeso 175, Bode Ayorind-95, Kunlere Boluwaji 33, Shola Ebisieni-29, Erewa Goday 14.
The chairman of the electoral committee, who is the Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, declared Eyitayo Jegede the winner of the primary election.
Mr. Jegede was the candidate of the PDP in the 2016 governorship election.
Voting started around 2 pm and ended around 8 pm.
With this development, Jegede will now face Governor Rotimi Akeredolu at the poll.
This will be a repeat of the 2016 battle.
Political pundits have described the forthcoming governorship election as the battle of two SANs.
