3 docked for allegedly obtaining N1.5m under false pretext

Three alleged tricksters, accused of defrauding a woman of N1.5 million under false pretext, on Wednesday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

 

The accused: Vivian Okoro, 31; Glory Bassey, 29 and Uche Amaechi, 30; are facing a six-count charge of felony, fraudulent trick, obtaining under false pretext and administering unlawful oath.

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

 

The Prosecutor, Insp. Uademevbo Moses, told the court that the accused duped one Omolara Ogunmakin of N1.5 million on June 19 at Jakande Estate, Ejigbo, Lagos.

 

Moses said that Ogunmakin had boarded a bus and was joined along the way by the trio, who quickly induced her and commanded her to pay them the sum of N1.5 million.

“She was also told to swear an oath not to reveal what had transpired among them and to keep it a secret,” he said.

 

Moses said that the offences contravened Sections 35, 36(1), 312, 316, 321 and 323 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 312 prescribes 15 years imprisonment for offenders.

 

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs I.O. Adelaja, granted each of the accused N100,000 bail ,with two responsible sureties each in like sum.

 

She adjourned the case till Aug. 3 for mention.
